In 1908 Mr. Masson founded the company known as Masson in Neuilly, just outside Paris, where a complete range of marine reducers was conceived.
It included reversers for fixed propellers and clutches for CPPs, all dedicated to the requirements of the workboat industry.
In the Seventies, Masson was installed at the current site in Sens, and became part of the Pont a Mousson group. As the workboat market evolved, Masson was brought to develop the PTOs required to drive accessories such as generators and pumps, to suit the demands of professional users.
Other products were also manufactured at the factory in Sens. Notably gearboxes for buses and disc brakes for railway applications.
Between 1981 and 1993, the company Renk, part of the MAN group, purchased Masson which became known as the Société Européene dEngrenages (S.E.E.). During this period, a new generation of reducers with a wide range of reduction ratios and powers was developed.
In 1999, the ZF group bought the S.E.E. company and created ZF Masson which became the principal pole for workboat propulsion products. The Sens factory within ZF Marine was entrusted with the development and manufacture of a range of controllable pitch propellers in order to extend the offer to encompass complete propulsion systems.
In November 2005, Masson became independent with creation of the company Masson-Marine S.A.S.
