Evolution over time

The naming sequence of Masson-Marine gearboxes has changed over time.

The latest evolution has been the change from ZF to Masson-Marine. The only modification of the names here has been to change the initials (replacing ZF by MM). As to the transmissions themselves, their characteristics have changed.

The ZF period

Between 2000 and 2006, Masson-Marine was an integral part of ZF.

During this period, the gearboxes of this category were built and sold.

Today, most of them are still being built, but their respective performances have changed.

As to their names, only "ZF" has been replaced by "MM".

ZF transmission naming system

First part of the name:

ZF: Company brand name
W: "workboat", as our gearboxes are designed for professional applications in continuous operation
Number: this is the model type; the higher the number, the higher the power ratio that can be transmitted

Last part of the name:

(No extension): The gearbox is a standard gear with vertically offset input and output shaft lines.
NR: "non reversing" - this transmission is a clutch/de-clutch gearbox (no reverse gear).
CEW: "counter-engine-wise" means that the direction of rotation of the output shaft is the opposite of the input shaft rotation.
EW: "engine-wise" means that the input and output shafts rotate in the same direction.
C: "coaxial". The input and output shafts lie in line with one another.
DS: "dual speed" - this gearbox has two reduction ratios

Example:

ZF W 20000 NR CEW: non-reversing transmission, model 20000, with input and output shafts rotating in opposite directions.
